Egyptian army list question

Postby Keith T on Sun Feb 21, 2010 7:43 pm

Hi
I am trying to work out my army list and was not sure about the chariots for the generals, do their points count against the characters percentage or the chariot/cavalry percentage limit.
On a slightly diffrent point, does anyone use chariot runners or do you go for the maximum number of chariots ?

Always use chariot runners - you do need to screen the light chariots are there are a decent amount of bow armed armies in Biblical period (and javelin armed troops for that matter) - and even though they are hard to hit and wound - you can loose them quite quickly forcing panic tests from shooting.

I believe the points for Kings chariot comes from Chariot section - but do not have book with me - I am sure someone more familiar with egyptians will comment.

No, the chariot for characters is part of the character percentage.
It's a heroic chariot, not an ordinary noble one :)

Thanks Olaf.

Just went out to games room and got my copy of Chariot Wars for something else and it clearly explains on P3 under "Characters in Chariots" that the points cost of the chariot is taken from the points available for character - so Olaf is correct.

Thanks again Olaf & Andy
I think I will go for 2 units of chariots each 6 strong, one with the general and army standard, both with full command and protect the generals unit with the chariot runners.

Keith,

6 is a good number - I would be wary of combining both General and ASB - if for any reason the ASB or king (or both) need to leave unit - eg to support infantry attack with the generals awesome 10 leadership and ASB re roll that leaves the Chariot unit down to 4 models - quite brittle even with their 3 up save!

Good luck with army.

Andy
Good point, maybe the ASB would be best around behind the centre of army for the re-roll's, I guess I will have to try a few game to find out. That is when I have gotten all the figures and painted them.
thanks

remember the 25% points allowance for chariots includes the chariot runners, so if you are having a (small) unit of those in a 2000 point army you will probably only get 10 chariots max if in 2 units (430 points inc command). If you make one unit Ne'arin this fixes the problem, but they don't shoot so well.

I had a blast with Egyptians over the weekend in the WAB GT and I used chariots in units of 4. They where very fragile and just two losses saw them unable to rally. I would go with a unit or six or seven Egyptians and a similar sized unit of Near'im.

Thanks for the ideas, been writeing lots of army lists anf thought of:
5 chariots full command plus general.
5 chariots full command
asb in chariot
10 chariot runners
24 archers [8 x 3]full command
24 archers cmd
24 marines cmd
30 spearmen [10 x 3] cmd
30 spearmen cmd
16 slingers.
Lots of big solid infantry units for the chariots to hide behind till I want them to fight, plenty of missile troops who can fight and skirmishers to protect the flans and chariots.
Comments please.
