Gritty Arthurians...

Postby Crocus » Fri Sep 02, 2011 9:08 pm

I can't believe I am the first to post here, but as I got the rules yesterday and am most pleased with them, here goes!

As mentioned I only got the rules yesterday so before I blather on without a clue I thought I'd solicit the ideas of others: I play end of Empire and Britannia games mainly solo and am keen to convert the WAB troop types into HC. In this way I will be able to integrate my skirmishes with larger battles. I have been doing this with DBx and SoBH, but am unsatisfied with the result.

I have been playing the WH rules off and on since they came out, but I do not like the way they play large battles. I daresay the new rules would go some way to address my dissatisfaction but I cannot subscribe to the Evil Empire's marketing, having been disgusted in my youth by GW's ever-changing, lucrative rule sets. For skirmishes, however, WAB suits me and the supplements Age of Arthur, Shieldwall and Siege and Conquest (?)are brilliant pieces of work.

So how best to reflect the difference between your WAB Gedricht, Duguth and Geoguth in the (seemingly empty on this forum at least) HC panmultiverse?

Welcome!

If you have not done so already, I would recommend joining the Hail Caesar discussion group on Yahoo: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HailCaesarRules/

The group is a very active one, with frequent contributions by the rules author. So someone there should be able to help you with your query.

Cheers,
Scott

I think you'll like the way that HC plays large battles. HC easily handles a table full of models, smoothly playing out games with hundreds of figures per side.

We've been playing using lists converted from Shieldwall and BTGG. Troop types have come over easily, although some of the fine detail from WAB is lost. The key point is to coordinate with your opponent to create appropriate lists for the game - it can be easy to be carried way adding Useful Rules.

I'm getting into HC in terms of the orders system - but I wouldn't describe WAB as a skirmish rule set (is a game with 500 figures in formed units a skirmish?)
