Hebrew army

Postby He Who Is Nameless on Sun May 11, 2008 9:49 am

Still under development. Figures for this army are a bit limited, I have used Castaway Arts figures including the Ark of the Covenant.

General (still trying to find a more military figure)

Image Image

Unit of Judean spearmen (just waiting for me to do some Star of David transfers, not historical I know)

Image

the bases are a bit bare but are true enough to the terrain I saw on a trip to Israel recently

And a unit of skirmishers (movement trays are handy to move large amounts of skirmishers common in the Hebrew army)

Image

and the Ark (very handy, the re-rolls for Break and Rally tests are really useful)

Anyone else with pictures of their own Hebrews please feel free to post as well for comparison (I found it very hard to find other Hewbrew armies on the net) this is one that I found

A very nice army.

A pity this Goliath is 15mm (though he might be bigger?) I know not a Hebrw but a nice General

Lovely stuff Justin, really nice to look at. Extremely atmospheric.

One of the freshest and most inspirational armies I've seen here for a long time!

Nice models, those Castaway Arts ones... I've been trying to convince myself NOT to buy a load of their NW Frontier stuff for a while and am steadily weakening...

Anyway, back OT...very nice to see the army up here Justin. The colour scheme works well, and I agree about the bare bases.
Shame that so few manufacturers do Hebrew models...

Good stuff indeed! Nice models too. The dusty/sandy basing really sets the painting off a treat.

Where are the spears from?

Cheers

The spears are left-overs from my old range of brass wire spears. I made sure to keep a supply for myself.

6cm spears cut down to 5cm which is long enough to suggest long spears without being a pain for storage. Bronze heads rather than iron of course.

Is the skirmisher tray GF9 or of your own creation mate?

nice army Justin it would be good to see in its entirety

When it is finished, which it will have to be for Toy Soldier. Chariots are coming next, I have played with it as a foot army with an Ark and it was very good but a bit defensive (shoot the enemy to death and then hold their charge). The chariots should give it an offence option.

Sorry the movement trays are GF9, of course I sell them so I use them. The picture of the skirmishers has been added to the GF9 Tray page of my site, I have been meaning to put up a picture of a skirmisher tray for ages. At the last Toy Soldier I used 60 Sumerian skirmishers and someone said "those are are going to take a long time to move", not really, 1, 2, 3, 4 trays and the skirmish screen is moved. Of course you have to take them off the tray when moving into combat but for shooting/moving, they are fine.

AWESOME. I've been hoping someone would post some Israelite armies on here for a long time :D. Great work. Never seen those GF9 skirmisher trays before, very interesting.

Looks great. Would love to see more of this army. The figures are very well done by Castaway Arts.

OK and a bit further along we have the chariots

Image

First chariot squadron. Chariots from Castaway arts, transfers by me (VVV)

Image

Image

Second chariot squadron. I added a leader, musician and standard bearer to this unit.

Image

General (well you cannot see him in this shot, his arm is sticking out in front of the chariot driver in white) and ASB. Note the ASB has a small lion transfer on the army standard, from a VVV 15mm transfer sheet (G18).

Image

The Judean spearmen of the army. 3 units of 24 and 2 units of 20. One unit (Gibborim) with red shields and blue transfers. Then the rest of the army all with deep blue shields, half with white transfers, half with blue transfers.

You have done very well with that army. The transfers really make them stand out. I will be getting some when I back from holidays. I like the chariots. But I do find them quite expensive compared to Newline Designs. Saying that there are some real gems from Castwaway Arts in here. These photos are great for painting tips. Again great transfers.

They look great Justin - the sort of army I'm looking at doing

You said they are Castaway Arts figures, did you have shipped up from Aussie land or is there a European company that carries them at all? Just looking at all the options :D
