Yes your infantry can pursue into the flank/side of a retreating cavalry stand.
The rules state you can't pursue into the front of a cavalry or chariot stand. (p55)
If you can manuevre onto the flank of a cavalry unit with infantry, good on you!!!
That said, the reasoning for not pursuing into the front is stated as the 'cavalry outpacing the infantry'. I guess if you catch them in the flank, the retreat is more chaotic allowing the infantry to pursue.
Its also worth noting that you CAN pursue into contact with retreating cavalry IF it is corner to corner contact only and the infantry unit is pursuing into contact with aonther retreating infantry unit (p58).
Note also that you CAN pursue into contact with the front of other freshly contacted cavalry/chariot units that were not part of the pursuit (p58).
