Hi,

Welcome to the world of Warmaster and 10mm, (be careful once you've played you may not want to play another system or scale :D ).
There's a good choice of dark age armies, some list are in the main rule book others are in the Warmaster Armies book.Which to take? that choice is yours if you like Inf armies then it would be Saxons/Vikings etc or Normans for Cav type armies. My personal choice of Dark Age armies for a good game is Normans vs Arab Conquest (aka Battle for Sicily.)

Which manufacturer to use? theres some good 10mm about. One thing to remember is at the moment each manufacturers 10mm is a different size so if buying an army get all units from the same manufacturer in that army, don't mix and match. You'll see what I mean if you put an Kallistra fig next to a Pendraken (looks a bit like Land of the Giants  )
My personal favorite is Magister Militum a good cast, nice size, good to paint and a great service. That said ive got armies from most of the manufacturers and to be fair they are all good.

If you click on the link to my Blog you will find links to all the 10mm manufacturers

Hope this helps

Yes i have been looking at magister militum, im pondering buying two of their 1000 point sets.

Saxon and Normans would be nice. As im Swedish im quite tired of Vikings :P

Caledonians would be quite fun(if they are anything like the caledonians in warhammer ancient battles), but dont know what models to use for that :)

Ive been thinking of buying 10mm for some time, i just want armies that look and behave like armies :)

Ah! I see your point about Vikings, If you went for Medieval you could use the lists in the Medieval Armies book to do a Swedish Medieval army I'm sure there was a couple of opponents for them, Also armies aren't quite as big so if your buying two it would cost you less. Remember armies in WM tend to be big and Dark Age slightly bigger (all that Inf). As for armies behaving like armies in Warmaster that's what they all do, that's what makes it a good set of rules, there are armies that will win a lot of the time (on paper at least) but you need to use them correctly and then get your Ld test off! :D

well in the middle ages sweden fought denmark alot, and russia, and had their own little crusades and what not...
You could probably set them up to fight germans and polacks and others as well, anyone in contact with the baltic sea.

but im still more interested in darkages, i just dont want a viking army of my own :P
So itll probably Saxons qestion is what enemies to add..

If your going for Anglo-Saxon it would be Welsh,Scots,Vikings(that ones out) or the Normans and of course they fought other Anglo-Saxons.

The lists look okay, as you say go for the balanced Norman Army.

I would suggest that use have more than 1 command stand - which must be a general. If you fail any of his command rolls, it will be the end of your turn. I like to have at least 2 (or 3)command stands in 1000pts army.

Question: do the packs contain bases or do i need to order them aswell?
are the packs of bases the right size? and how many do i need to order?

No the packs dont include bases, you have to buy them seperately. You can order 40x20x2mm bases in the MM online store. There are 50 per pack thats for 16 units. Just order 2 packs so you have enough for 2 armies.
