new to warmaster some advice please...

Postby Marcus on Sun Jun 20, 2010 7:44 pm

greetings all. recently been converted to 10mm wargaming and awaiting warmaster ancients rule book. have already ordered late roman army from pendraken, mainly because i really just like the models and have a habit of being impulsive!
anyway also really like cavalry and since there is a good range have gone for mostly cavalry army. Trouble is not actually having the rules yet i dont know if it is even possible to field a roman cavalry army. historically im not sure they ever went for full cavalry armies but thats not to say they woudnt in the game.
please help with any ideas on good composition and how many models are there to a unit? without the book im in the dark so would appreciate any thoughts you have.
cheers. Marcus

Hi Marcus,
Welcome to the forum and WARMASTER. To answer your question in one word, no. In all the list in the books (Warmaster, Warmaster Armies and Rick Priestley's Warmaster site) you have to take some Inf,
the updated list are on Ricks Warmaster site so if you haven't received your books yet check out the lists there.
As for army compositions depends which list, figs to a unit normally 30 foot 3 stands of 10, 12 cav 3 stands of 4, skirmishers and light cav, less figs.

Hope that helps a little,

Jason

Cheers for the reply there Jason now have some idea of what to expect, and must say thankyou to the other general for the advice.
Was wondering can all the armies in the lists do battle with each other or does yor opponent have to field an army from the same era? also can ancients/medieval fight each other. be nice to do "what if" battles if possible.
been seeing from other discussions that skirmishers are a bit of a nightmare, is this so?
Got one week before armies and rules arrive...feels like a lifetime! :)

The design of Warmaster Ancients is quite suitable for "what if" scenarios and anachronistic matches, so fielding armies from different eras is possible, especially if you have the two supplements. As a matter of fact, I intend to do a "Roman vs Samurai" battle in the near future :)

EDIT: Here's a battle report you might find interesting: the Teutonic order vs Carthage. Enjoy :D
