Foundry/Great War figure compatibility

Postby ilkleylads » Thu Jun 12, 2008 10:09 am

hi

I have not seen Great War figures in the flesh and was wondering how they compare, height wise, with the old foundry range.

I have a bunch of late war Foundry figures and i would like to add some of the Great War figures to add some extra poses and wepaon types (MG08/15 - commands).

Will these guys mix togehter.

Hi
From what i can remember the Foundry figures are quite a bit smaller than the great war miniatures.

Sadly not, or rather they will mix with a bit of work.

The foundry ones are 28mm tall (or what people used to call 25mm) the great war ones are significantly taller and more robust looking (not 'tubby' like some of the larger ranges). Battle Honours are a better size match for Foundry.

However there is a solution. Mount your Founder on GW bases and the Great War ones on pennies or similar thin bases. Thus they will look the same size on the table. Very few people can tell the difference from more than two feet away. Voila! Job done guv!

Cheers,

thanks for the info.

In fact my foundry figures are mounted on a small base of card and then then on a 2 pence piece. I did this as I also have some HLBS Austro Hungarians and wanted to give my foundry figures an extra bit of height. Sounds like i should leave my foundry figures on the stepped bases and iIshould be all right.

I have some pictures of demo games I put on at Fiasco in Leeds. I did a 1914 game based on Elouges using Renegade figure and a 1917 game set in the Balkans. The Balkans is a good front as you can use all sorts of armies. For the allies Russian, French, British and Serbian for the central powers German, Austro Hungarian, Bulgarians and Turks.

I will see if I can find then and load here if anyone is interested.

I agree.

Foundry (surprisingly) are much smaller than the Great War figures. I was going to mix both of their EW Germans together in my Guards army but the difference is very noticable. They are both beautiful ranges but you may have to choose one or the other. I am personally going with Great War.
