HI andekmcc, thanks for the reply, yep pretty sure that's the case. I just got some info that confirmed that. Can't imagine why you would want to buy ships without the guns out!!
Pessa, At the scale of 1/1200, a ship not 'at quarters' looks just as appealing as one that is! But you have to remember, 'at quarters' ships do need some extra painting! Red insides of gun ports and colour of guns.
Hi for some reason I find it easier to paint the ships "at Quarters" I always sruggle to get the finish I want with the guns inside. Also I have been using Army Painter on the ships, the sails are alot darker but look weathered I like the results! Anyone else tried this ?
Just another quick note, if you want to get your ships looking historically accurate... pretty much anytime a ship is at quarters they're going to have their courses furled at the same time (to avoid the lower sails from catching on fire during the action). So, you may want to make sure you've got a matching set of sails for whatever look you're going for (either at quarters or under all-plain-sail).
Allen, I have used Strong tone on the hulls and Soft tone on the sails as I find that the Strong tone is too dark for the sails and the Soft gives a nicely 'weathered' look.
