Forged in Battle (Westwind) 1/3000 ship missing

Postby Mad Mö » Wed Apr 08, 2009 12:13 pm

I received my "NAP-F8 Franco Spanish Fleet" from Westwind and found everything o.k. until:
I counted them. Yes 33 ships is correct but
the spanish Santissima Trinidad (136 guns) is missing!
I got an extra 74/80 gun ship thou.
I wrote a mail to Westwind but no answer after three days.
I am really disappointed.
It´s like a british fleet without HMS Victory.
A definite NO BUY.

That is quite an important omission. Any word back from them yet?

I had 5 british ships in the french fleet pack.
I mailed them en within a week got 5 new french ships including bases for free, so now I have gained 5 ships.
Less then perfect packaging, but good service from Westwind. And beautiful little ships. :D

Received a reply from Westwind:

Hi Marcus,
Thanks for your email. The guy who is in charge of the Forged in Battle ships is on holiday until Monday 20th April. I will forward this to him for his comments on his return.
Kind regards
Andy

I wrote a review for the spanish-franco fleet at the Westwind Homepage.
It was deleted.
Wrote another one:
http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=191&products_id=1497
Maybe it´s because i awarded one star because of the missing Santisima Trinidad?

Wow! Crappy service AND no responsibility taken for an error on their part.

Was your first review along the lines of the current one? If so then they've broken what is IMHO the Golden Rule in my book-NEVER edit your criticisms! If they're stated in a constructive manner then the host needs to take the bad with the good (and, of course, make good on the error!).

A few of my pals here had given Westwind serious consideration because of the sculpts and convenience of getting a whole fleet in one go, but if the service is this suspect, I'll let 'em know.

KeepOnTruxtun! I would give Westwind the benefit of the doubt since I have dealt with them many times over the last few years and always found them very responsive, even to constructive comment.

Cheers

Good to hear, but, as a company as only as good as their last sale, it'd probably be a good idea for them to make good on this and even explain why they deleted his first criticism.

Perhaps I am too forgiving, but I would have a little bit more leeway in this case. You received the package on Wednesday. You sent an inquiry, that possibly ended up on a desk after five o'clock, ending up in somebody''s mailbox who was perhaps already on holiday. I do not kow how it is there, but in my country (Netherlands) the Easter 'Holiday's' start for a lot of people on friday, and some will be in the car with their kids on thursday afternoon. The easter weekend is mum-and-the-kids-claim-me-time for practically the whole married male population, preferably followed up with a little holiday to save days off, just like the rest of Europe. This guy probably did, and the other guy probably forgot to check his colleague's mailbox in the meantime. After his own mum-and-the-kids-claim-me-time he did, he sent you a decent e-mail.

Getting your package wrong is a disappointment, but minor things can go wrong. And even the Great Demon Company ***GWcouch** is usually pretty forthcoming if it is about missing parts. Moreover, wargames companies are small businesses with employees/owners having other jobs to earn the real money. It's the 16th today. That is hardly a week after you received your order in one of the most fragmented weeks of the year. the 20th this colleague of the guy you got your package from will send you your missing part for free, if not more. I think your comment that is now on the Westwind site is both premature AND hardly constructive.

Give these guys a break. This is about a hobby. Not life or death.

The product listing seems to indicate that no four-decker model was produced to properly complete the fleet. If there is no appropriate model, it seems odd to counsel patience and wait for a replacement, since there could be no suitable "replacement".

So the review seems quite correct to me: the fleet pack is incomplete, in the absence of the correct model for "El Ponderoso".

Now i´m impressed. :!:
I received following email yesterday, april the 16th, 5:02 pm:

"Dear Marcus,

I'm the designer who sculpted the Forged-In-Battle Trafalgar ships.
We were in two minds whether or not to make a different model for "Santissima Trinidad".
It is almost identical to the other Spanish 3-deck 112s.

It was my mistake that the box only contains 2x 112 & 1x 100 and an extra 2 deck 74.

But I have now made a "Santissima Trinidad". I moulded it yesterday.
We will send you a master casting as soon as possible.

Best Regards,
Andrew Rawling"

I´ll keep you posted.

P.S.
Maybe my first email is still sitting in the spam folder.
The second email was sent from my business account.
If above is true Westwind is quite fast answering emails.
My second email was sent april the 8th, 12:08 pm and the answer was in the inbox the same day at 02:20 pm!

That is indeed fantastic service, kudos to Westwind.

Indeed!

Although the statement "It is almost identical to the other Spanish 3-deck 112s" is not quite correct. After 1795, she should show a fourth gun deck, joining the foc'sle to the quarterdeck. Here's how the bigger lads do her:
