Really stupid question regarding Langton ships...

Postby Legionary312AD » Thu May 28, 2009 11:24 am

This is a really stupid question...

With the Langton British 74s listed as large, middling and common what is the difference? So large is large but middling and common?

I'd guess it was ship design.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Colossus_(1803)

Colossus is described as a large 74, with 24lbers on her upper decks, replacing 18lbers found on 'middling' vessels.

Thanks Guy.

Just found this on the same page on the Langton site. It is surprising how much we filter out when we look at things, must have read that page a dozen page and never noticed this:

BRITISH 74 Common, Middling and Large vessels:
Commons: approx. 168-170ft, carried 28 x 18pounders on upper deck.
Middlings: approx. 173-175ft, carried 28 x 18pounders on upper deck.
Large: approx. 176-185ft, generally 30 x 24pounders on upper deck.

There were more of the 'common' size than any other type of 74.
Very few of the large size.

The shame.

Even worse, the basic stats dont allow for this differance, unless you adjuste the base stats yourself..
(or for that matter allow for 80 gunners!)
last case a common class overlooked, but like all you can just adjust the stats.
