Help - reinforcing weak masts, modelling tips

I could do with some help on how to reinforce the main masts on my old 1/3000 models, they're very good to look at but are fine scale so don't hold up well to regular handling and are always bending and risk breaking. The fore and mizzen masts are fairly well secured by other sails and are not so 'stand alone', but any modelling advice would be welcome for making the ships more gaming friendly and more robust to handle while still looking reasonable at this scale.
