Doubt about skirmishers and charge

Postby Condedraki » Sat Nov 06, 2010 10:44 pm

Hi everyone:

Yesterday, in a battle between greek and El Cid (yes, a strange battle), we see a strange situation. We show you the diagram.

Image

Thracian in the upper side tried to charge the andalusian horsemen. In the red line A, thracian were line of sight BUT don't arrived to charge (more than 10" that they can move), but in the line B, the rest of the thracian HAVEN'T line of sight but arrived to charge through A FOREST.

Our opinion were different: Following the rules, in the moment you have a line of sight, skirmishers run to charge DIRECTLY to the andalusian (over open ground or the forest), and if the thracian than run through the forest contact the enemy unit, the charge is correct.

what do you think?

First check whether a charge can be declared. In this case at least one Thracian can see the cavalry, so a charge can be declared. Then check whether the charge will succeed in reaching the target. Each Thracian figure is moved individually up to its maximum 10" charge move. Those that end up in contact fight. If no figures can contact, its a failed charge. Remember that the figures charging through the wood will do so at half speed while in the wood, so it looks from the picture as if no one will end in contact and the charge will fail- assuming the cavalry are daft enough to stand there of course!

From the rulebook:

"Skirmishing infantry suffer no penalties for moving through difficult terrain."

I thought that the majority of a skirmish unit had to be able to see an enemy unit in order to charge?

Thanks

No the majority is required to decide the direction in which the skirmishers are facing, and therefore the line of sight.

So in this case all are facing forward - so any one that is looking that way and can see counts.
