Revealed Shooters

Postby Grizz » Thu Jan 26, 2012 1:05 pm

According to the S.O.P for shooting you -

Nominate Targets
Fire Warmachines
Fire remaining missile weapons
etc

The situation is as follows

Unit A - Bow armedCavalry with Partian Shot declares it will shoot unit X
Unit B - Infantry Archers declares that it will shot unit X

At the point at which targets are nominated A blocks B's line of sight so that only 2 models can fire at X

later on in the shooting phase

Unit A fires at X, and as per the rules immeadiately makes it's move allowed by the Parthian shot and moves so that it no longer blocks the line of sight of any model in Unit B

Unit it B now shots - Can it only shoot with the 2 models originally nominated or does A's move mean that now all the figures in B can shhot as they now all have a clear line of sight?

What if A had totally blocked B's view of X until it had used it's Parthian Shot rule, could B then have a "revealed target" and shoot at X although it couldn't see it when targets were nominated?

Thanks for any / all help on this

Move the parthian shot unit after all shooting was done.
Shooting was declared for all units to make it more simultaniuosly, moving a unit and wait until they finish their move doesn't seem to be proper to me for shooting at the same time.

Just my 2 cent

The Parthian Shot rules state that you move immeadiately after shooting which is why I asked the question.

It's a really obscure situation and one I had not come across until a recent game. I was the one being shot at and we went with only the 2 figures in B could shoot based on a strict interpretation of the SOP, but I would like to know what the "official" answer is for the future.

I must be honest for the sake of not seeing multiple units of horse archers stacking up one behind the other to volley fire into a given unit - I prefer your suggestion, but you know what people are like sometimes

If we went purely on things working sequentially then I would say yes they could shoot more than the original 2 however as shooting is simultaneous then unit blocks line of sight whilst shots are being taken and then moves following all shooting. Thats how I would read it in the spirit of the rules.

I know a few people who would happily stack their shooters to gain maximum firepower however I would strongly discourage them (in a very friendly but firm manner of course).
