MDS Design Challenge - Now accepting entries!

Postby --- » Sun Sep 27, 2009 10:46 pm

Hi,

After successfully completing the Design Challenge set by Mr. Colin Knight, I’m finally ready for another challenger to step from the ranks!

For those who have no idea what I’m talking about (many I suspect!), once every month or two I’ll be offering up the chance for one random gamer/collector to choose a troop type that he/she would like to see designed, manufactured and added to the MDS catalogue.

The idea is simple. Many of us have a miniature that we’d like to see produced, that isn’t yet available. Sometimes the available information on the particular troop type may be a little vague, or the subject matter might not represent a great commercial opportunity so is likely to never see the light of day. Alternatively, you might simply want another pose in a miniature that you already have. All are valid reasons to enter your choice into the MDS Design Challenge.

Is there a catch? No. It’s one of those rare occasions when something doesn’t cost you anything, you don’t have to sign a contract, and you might even get something you’ve always wanted out of it!

To add to the fun, if I don’t complete the challenge of designing/manufacturing/cataloguing the winning entry in three variant poses within 21 days, the challenger will be awarded £25.00 in credit to use on any of the figures in our catalogue (Including their own design!), as well as the right to boast about it! (Remember, £25.00 could buy a Warband Deal with 50 figures!)

Does it alter our already terrible release schedule history? That would be hard to do, now wouldn’t it! The MDS release schedule has been somewhat, erm, slow since launch. I won’t go into the various boring reasons for this, but it has already started to change. There is a new release schedule for the Hittites on the website as well as quite a few recent new additions to our catalogue.

Our existing customers will be glad to know that all of the current ranges will see regular monthly additions until the ranges are ‘complete’. The first of these, which will be added to the catalogue next will be 5 Sea People Archers, 5 more Picts and 2 variant Hittite Guards.

So, would you like the chance to have one of your ideas created?

Here are the rules of the challenge:

The scale will be 28mm
The troop type must be rank and File infantry
The subject must be either Biblical, Ancient or Dark Age (we don’t sell WW2!)
The figure will be designed in three variant poses (To be agreed)
Only one entry per person (I will check!)
All entries must reach MDS via email by 12.00pm, Friday 9th October 2009

For more details and to see the previous challenge results, you can check out the challenge page on our web-site www.miniaturedesignstudio.co.uk

To enter, send us an email with Design Challenge in the title and details of your entry to info@miniaturedesignstudio.co.uk

Let the challenge begin!

Best of luck
Dave

And the winner is....

Matt Beauchamp from the USA

He's asked for three open handed New Kingdom Egyptians in advancing pose with an assorted weapon sprue.

The challenge will start on Monday 12th October at 12.00pm so by my reckoning that means I've got until Sunday 1st November to finish, or Matt gets his £25.00 credit!

May the best mds, erm, man win!!

Great could do with more spearmen. Alternative weapons is great idea.
