Hot lead - Aftermath

Postby TonyStafford » Mon Jul 18, 2011 9:06 am

Many thanks to Martin for the running of this event and to Darren and Andy for the use of their magnificent lair. Did really well in the first three games with last place in the bag, disastrous last game which moved me up 5 places.

Thanks again for a great day

Another great day with the Beasty Boys.

Despite being outclassed by about 500 years my Romano-Brits did well enough. I had a good time with my mates, so sod victory points, I won.

Scrivs,
When the archeologists discover the site of our battle they will surmise that a small skirmish action had taken place. Never will they know that two mighty armies clashed, lost a few men, looked at each other and ran off in opposite directions…

Fun game. I look forward to our next one.

It was good to see many of my friends before moving back to the US.

Thanks to the Beast for hosting and Martin for all his work.

I would like to give a big thank you to the beasty boys for putting on another great day, and to Martin who gave us some great scenarios again. (Cheers Chaps).
I would also like to thank my opponents on the day, Mike, James, Simon and Andy; I had four great games which always makes it a good day.

Special mention should go to James who is getting dragged from our shores, and is off to sunny Florida for a couple of years. Hope you get plenty of gaming in Mate and enjoy the sun.

Also Andy who Kicked my butt in the last game, this was achieved by some excellent tactical play and gamesmanship. Well done Andy on first place.

Highlight of the day was Pete (last Place) Johnson finally winning a game after playing toy soldiers for over 20 years. Pete was very excited on the way home and bounced around the back of the car with a big smile on his face, this excitement however only lasted 10minutes because he tired himself out and fell asleep for the rest of the journey home.
It would be unfitting and unfair to continue to call Peter, Last place Johnson. After 3 years of coming last in all events, he has managed to lose his crown.

So this high flying one shot one kill gunslinger will now for ever be known as ONE WIN JOHNSON.

I had a great time, four top games against John, James, Bob and James.

James has summarised events in his earlier post, I think we must have been fighting in the haunted glade as both armies were spooked by the slightest thing - must be the shock to both sides of seeing the Roman Magistrate duffing up an Infante without a scratch to himself.

I was ready for a snooze in the car on the way back too, which is not such a good thing as I was driving at the time :)

As the person on the receiving end of Pete Johnson's victory, I would like to state that he picked a great army, used it well and played like a true gent!! I am proud to be his 'victim'.... Also, he didn't just win it...he won by 1090pts to 0!!!
My AoA Welsh could make no headway agaisnt the SW Mercians...sigh...

Great day as always. Great games against 4 brilliant opponents - cheers guys.

Thanks also to Martin & the Beastie Boys (sounds like a great name for a band!!) for their hospitality.

Roll on the next one!!

I'll add my thanks for another great day out.

Thanks to my opponents, Ian, Mark, James and Carl.
To Martin and the Beasties for hosting.
And to Scrivs for not falling asleep at the wheel on the way home.

Great games in a great atmosphere.
Looks like reports of the death of WAB may be a little premature. :D

Good luck in Florida James, don't forget to orgaise a tournament and fly us all out there. :)

I managed a perfect record for the day - didn't win a thing, not even in the charity dice roll-off.

Here's a picture from each of my games:

Image
Ian's Vikings about to be sent to Valhalla (no, really!)

Image
Mark's Pict's confront The Thin White Line

Image
James' Welsh find their valley is full of Berbers (don't you just hate it when that happens?)

Image
Carl's Frenchmen about to acquire their meat ration for the month

Some kind of report with lots more pictures will appear on My Blog at some point in the future.

Well it looks as though I have some reply's to make, Firstly my thanks must go to the Beastie Boys and Martin for hosting another great days gaming, and I hope there will be many more to come. Although I lost my crown for coming last (occasionaly) I am more than happy to pass it on. :D

Secondly to Andy for those very kind words about our last game. After 3 defeats I was considering melting the saxons down and making lead fishing weights out of them. To the 3 guys who kicked my saxons about the table, well done. Sufice to say you are now all off my Valentine card list !!!!!!!

As to my last reply I can assure everyone that at my age I do not jump about in the back of moving cars and I only went to sleep when I new we were back in Yorkshire. I did'nt want to mention the 3 hour scenic drive through nearly every county in middle England, but thats another story. (turn right at the M18)

Many Thanks to all

Pete

My thanks too to all at GB HQ for yet another great day of WAB gaming.

I of course have to thank all my opponents for 4 great games especially as they all let me win with my AoArt Welsh - very kind of you.

Now, only if the GB HQ could squeeze another event in later this year for WAB it would be brilliant - October would be ideal :)

Regards
Andy

Scrivs,
I forgot about the challenge. It must have been at that point that my troops discovered that their general was an imposter…a Romano-British Magnate just does not win challenges.
That must be the reason they ran off..er..went to look for the real general.

Another Hot Lead has come and gone leaving good memories and a warm feeling inside- that may be something to do with Lord S's coffee
Four games against sporting, entertaining opponents for a tenner, now that's good value.
Scotty- who's the man!!!! that's two each mate.
Nick B, brilliant game but them charging warbands are a right bitch
Graham, you were always going to be under pressure after having lost the Challenge, I can't wait til you get your revenge :)
Nick 'The Judge'- good game again big man, but don't get complacent coming last, Pete wants his place back next time

Thanks to Martin, Darren, Andy for hosting and Roger 'powder monkey' for casting,
see you all soon,
Jim.

My thanks to all at Beast Towers for another fun event.

And also to my four opponents for some very interesting games, in which some of my plans actually worked for once!

But highlight of the day was seeing Pete's look of disbelief in the 4th round, when his archers saw off a unit of cavalry in his first move  , (I had to call Jim over in case he needed medical support or maybe just a good ribbing  ) from that point on his army seemed to get carried away and forget their past record.

What did he used to do with all those casualty figures?

Well done Pete.
