Is Initiative Too Important?

Postby staffordgames » Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:40 pm

I think that winning initiative gives a player too much of an advantage in CoE.

Just by winning a dice roll before the game starts means that he can.

1. Choose the climate
2. Heavily influence the number of terrain pieces
3. Place the first piece of terrain
4. Adds +1 to his dice roll to move terrain pieces
5. Make his opponent deploy first
6. Make a Flank March/Ambush
7. Adds +1 to his dice roll to see who gets first turn

If you then take into account the 'Strategy Rating' of an army it can give a player a huge advantage for no points cost just on the roll of a dice.

What do you think?

I see your point Roland, but I love it's affects also!
It's what makes CoE different.

Maybe for comp, tables are pre-set and a successful 'roll' allows you to pick sides?

Just to keep things in perspective, and I know I did not have a typical weekend.
BUT I won 1 of the 3 initiative rolls last weekend.
For those who were not there, I won all 3 games. This has NEVER happened to me before!

maybe we entered the 'Stafford Triangle'
and everything was opposite?

Or maybe now you've got more time on your hands, you've become an expert?
