Spartans

Postby Gerontius » Sat Mar 03, 2012 1:06 pm

Well, next year's GT sounded too good to miss out on so I've bought a couple of boxes of Immortal/Warlord Spartans (yes, I know it's a long way off but I'm a REALLY slow painter). They don't come with musicians, though, so the question is: does anyone know whether 1st Corps' Spartan range will match my Immortal Spartans in terms of size? And thus, by extension, will their peltasts and psiloi also match?

If not, does anyone know of any manufacturers which will work?

Thanks!

The First Corps models are chunkier; everyone elses are chunkier!
Does the box not come with a command sprue with a flute on it?

Strangely not, though I've a feeling that the Greek hoplite box gets one musician. Chunkier I can probably live with (well, I'll have to!).

Thanks!

@gerontius
I've just purchased a box of Wargames Factory Numidians, each sprue comes with an arm holding a horn. They're very plain, with just muscled arms so ripe for conversions. Not sure about the scale but I'll bring some up to the club next time I'm free if you like.(prob easter half term).

That would be fantastic - I'd love to have a look. I'm not generally a huge Wargames Factory fan, but this might be a good answer. Thanks!

I have the Immortal Hoplites and used a box of the Wargames Factory Numdians to make up my skrimisers / peltasts

They seem fine together and nobody has ever commented that they look odd / out of scale together.

Thanks, both of you - good tip. I've just had a look at the Wargames Factory website and they'll make great skirmishers at a good price.

We have a command set here which includes two musician models

As Stu mentioned most metal models are more chunky than the plastics, but our shields are the same size, and the height of the model is comparable, so when your opponent sees them heading toward him he won't know the difference!

Very nice! I prefer the look of pipers to horns for some reason. And the general figures appeal as well. Thanks.

I put together my Numidians last night. The scale seems the same as the Warlord Auxillaries so they're a good fit there. The sprue is damn good value in terms of additional bits and pieces. I'm able to make up 21 slingers which (thanks to Martins Q&A) I can now have in my EIR, and am jury rigging the bows onto the Auxillaries.
