Age of Ravens, by Martin Gibbins and Stuart McCorquodale, is the new source book for Clash of Empires. This book provides gamers with detailed army lists to fight battles from throughout the Age of the Vikings and the centuries of warfare in Spain. From the close of the 8th century, raiders from Scandinavia terrorised the British Isles and France, eventually establishing powerful kingdoms that made a resounding influence upon Europe. The book is split into three parts each focussing on a specific time period and series of conflicts and combatants, covering 18 stand-alone army lists plus variants.

Wolves unto the Fold

The first section covers the first Northmen raiders and their victims in Britain and Ireland to the establishment of Viking kingdoms. 18 army lists including variants are included for the Viking Raiders, Irish, Welsh, Picts, Scots, Middle Anglo-Saxons and Viking Great Army.

Invasion and Conquest
The second part charts the events in France with the competing interests and clashes between the Western Franks, Bretons and the Duchy of Normandy, and the invasion of England by William the Conqueror. 7 army lists including variants cover the Anglo-Danish, Bretons, West Francia, Normans and Anglo-Normans.

The Battle for Spain
The final part of the book deals with Spain from the arrival of the conquering Umayyads through the wars of El Cid to the nadir of Islamic presence in Iberia. 9 army lists including variants focus on the Visigoths, the Umayyad Invasion, Early and Later Christian Spain, Al-Andalus and the Berbers.

I was curious if anyone has received their copy yet? I pre-ordered my copy but it has yet to arrive. Since the release date, I haven't seen any mention of Age of Ravens online except that it had been released. Am I missing something?
Sorry if I seem impertinent, but I thought I would have seen mention of it by now. :?

I received an email from FRP Games, where I pre ordered, saying the book was actually getting released early-to-mid May.
Very disappointing.

All of the pre-orders went out on the 26th and 27th of April. The UK/EU distributors have had it for two weeks and North Star has had restocks. At least one US distributor has it, and I think War & Peace has either got it or it's in transit. FRP Games do not have an account with us, so I guess they are getting it from another distributor in the US.

If your store hasn't got it, they can contact us direct or North Star (who ship worldwide).

Oooh, I just noticed this. Looks like CoE and Age of Ravens will be my next purchase. Any chance you can give me a sniff of what the list is like for the Taifa Kingdoms period?

The Taifa Kingdoms list uses the Al-Andalus one as its "parent" list.

Just keep in mind that you may take one support or skirmish choice for each core unit taken.

Two units of Jinetes and one of Spearmen are compulsory (and count as core) units.
Andalusian archers (as well as the aforementioned Jinetes and spears) may also be taken as core units.
Spearmen may have archers.

Support units are:
Noble or Guard Cavalry - Taifa Kingdoms armies have slightly inferior options here.
Mercenary Spearmen
Horse Archers
No Hasham/Slavic Guard allowed.

Skirmishers:
Javelins, slings, limited bows.

Allies:
Berber
Early/Later Christian Spanish

Allies are probably pretty key for Taifa Kingdoms armies, as their access to quality cavalry isn't very good.

This sounds excellent.

I was under the impression that although their "heavy" cavalry was no where near the equal of the Christian Knights, the Andalusian "light" cavalry- what would become known as Jinetes- was quite good. I will definately be taking mercenary spearmen though, as I think the Andalusians utilised them quite a bit as their native infantry was not particularily warlike. :)

Yes, they have good lights but are limited with the heavier cavalry.

Unfortunately still waiting on my copy. Are there only two Viking lists or are there variants?
