Scots army, help please.

Postby Keith T » Wed May 16, 2012 7:43 pm

Ok, I would like to do a Scots army from AOA2 [p86].

First are these the lads still in Ireland or now in what will become Scotland :?:
What dates does this list cover 75ad to .....
And the big question what figures can I use.

I will be honest, its the number of chariots that I could have that makes this an interesting list :D , Peter[regular opponent] has an Imperial roman army he fields with elite legionaires etc, very hard army to beat :( .

I want a historical opponent for him and thought to use the Scots [I am scottish after all]
its quite a good looking list with some hard units in it.

proposed list so far, 3 units of 5 chariots, 30-40 strong elite warrior unit, 2 or 3 30-40 strong warrior units plus skirmishers etc.

Your thoughts and sujestions please.

For the period and opponent you face, you will probably want to look at the Pictish list as Scotland (Caledonia as it was known) was controlled by the early Pictish nations at the time. I am not able to give exact details on the period as all my historical source books are packed away.
When I am able, I plan to retool my Caledonians (Picts) with a unit or two of chariots as currently they are equipped as per Shieldwall supplement.
If it’s any help, try looking for the book Pictish Warrior and/or use an internet search for information to give an in period feel to the army.
If you need banners, Little Big Men do some fantastic ones as well as shield transfers.

Hope this is helpful

Thanks for that, it is helpfull.
I can not make up my mind which list to go with, peter has a pictish army from Shieldwall but with out any chariots, rather than buying metal pictish figures I though I might buy the plastic celts/britons from warlord as the army would be 70-80ad ish .

I know these are not plastics, but they are pretty cheap and don’t look too bad for filling out rank and file. I discovered this site in January.

The Picts in Shieldwall are amazingly powerful under WAB2 rules, even without chariots. If you try them under AoA2 lists it might redress the balance with the chariots giving the punch your infantry loses under the new lists.

As you may have guessed, I have played Picts from Shieldwall recently under WAB2. I am retooling my troops to conform to the new lists though.
