Ruleset for Perry Samurai

Postby redben » Fri May 04, 2012 1:14 am

Can anyone recommend a good set of wargames rules to use the Perry's samurai range? WFB AoA2 stops just before their range starts.

Pilije wrote a good un-official WAB list:
viewtopic.php?f=40&t=4127

Some skirmish-rules are out there too, me think. Depends on what you are looking for

And I'm working on a Sengoku jidai "Supplmenet" for WAB, like the napoleonic deluxe one, but that will be campaign orientated.

Hope that helps.
And yes, these miniatures are too beautiful not to buy/paint/play with :)

Cheers

In the "Blackpowderwargaming"-Yahoo-Group you can find some Samurai-Modifications. Seems to be very good.

Cheers for the info :). I'm looking for a full-scale wargames ruleset rather than a skirmish one and an adapted WAB list I can use against AoA2 lists is ideal.

Simply play 2000 vs 2800, should work, me think.

Perhaps though some rule changes from 1st to 2nd ed might have to be taken into consideration as well. I no longer have the 1st ed book to hand to reference this but did Stubborn get changed in 2nd ed? I'm assuming that's the reason Ninja are 25 points but they'd be way overpriced in the current edition. They have a similar profile to Warrior Monks in the current AoA2 Japanese list but the monks are half the price.

Would it take much to stretch the AoA Japanese list (late) to cover the period covered by the Perry range?

Anything missing apart from arquebuses and field artillery?

The free online Samurai list for War & Conquest should be up toward the end of this coming week following a number of requests and the fact I want to play with my Samurai as well!

The list will cover the period 1500- 1615 so fits with the Perry models.

It will be followed by Ikko Ikki and Koreans, and then the earlier periods, again, free online. Later in the year a publication covering some campaigns and battles, plus more variant lists. I may even still call it Divine Wind
kind regards

Probably not, especially with the help of the homebrew list. There's no Ninja in the list but I reckon basic human profile with M5, a missile weapon, Skirmish and Ambush would cover it.

I'll look out for this though it might some time before I can afford to buy the rulebook.

I know it's skirmish and "unofficial" but this SAGA variation may have merit:

I haven't read through so I don't know if they are modified to include muskets.

Thanks. If I can shift my Ospreys I'll pick up a copy of the book and give it a go.

Another book you might want to read is the Killer Katanas II ruleset. The rules are very "old school" and may not be your cup of tea, but the wealth of info about Samurai warfare is amazing. I'm adapting the scenarios in this book for other rule sets (like DBA-RRR and Hail Caesar). All in all, a great read.

I'm playing Impetus and using the beta list which I think is great for building Samurai armies with the basing opportunities. Later this year a new supplement is planned and will include a more comprehensive Samurai list.
