Hey guys, I posted this over at Great Escape Games as well, but I'm not sure what the activity level is like over there so thought I'd throw it up here as well. I'm looking for feedback on a later Spartan list of 2,500 points.
Mainly I am wondering about the units sizes of the Perioikoi Hoplites.
Here is the list as it stands now:
- Spartan Hoplites x 23 with light armour
- THREE units of Perioikoi Hoplites x 32 with light armour
- TWO units of Javelinmen x 15
TOTAL POINTS: 2,495
Now, what I am wondering is this: I can split those three units of 32 Perioikoi into FOUR units of 24 men each instead.... This decreases each unit's size, but would give me a fifth combat unit on the table allowing me to cover more of the battle field. Also, the two units of 15 Javelinmen could be split into three units of 10 men each...
These changes would not change the points costs of the list at all, and would basically put more units on the table at the expense of the units' overall sizes.
Thoughts? Oh, and the plan for the hoplites is deploy 8 men wide (at least that is what the movement trays are being built for) but the question is whether to do 3 trays that are 8x4 for the Perioikoi or 4 trays that are 8x3. I actually have the 8x4 trays already, but I am wondering if spreading my lines a little longer across the table would be better... If so, it looks like I'll be making a new set of trays. If it matters, my main opponents are Early Imperial Romans and barbarians of different flavours.
