ok this is the trial list how does it look?

lieutenant: Heavy pistol, cavalry sabre
Sergeant: Heavy pistol,
Trooper: Guidon, Rifle
3 troopers: rifles
Sergeant. cavalry sabre
$200 exactly 7 figures (should be easy to paint) resisting the temptation to take a Gatling gun!

You might want them all with cavalry sabres, the cavalry charge is very nasty indeed.

I would have if this was the US Cavalry,
i agree Tommy that charge looks realy nasty,
But i was looking at the US infantry, to get a few more figures on the table (and still thinking about the gatling gun)

Looks nasty. My comancheroes have 7 too, should be painted by next week if I crack on. Gradually buying up enough scenery for good games too. Let me know how well they field Ben, I might do a US Army unit too.

Ben,

---------You have infantry confused with cavalry.

You wrote:

lieutenant: Heavy pistol, cavalry sabre

------pistol and NOT a cav saber. He uses an different sword. It's lighter.

Sergeant: Heavy pistol,

----Nope. He has a rifle & bayonet, no pistol and no sword.

Trooper: Guidon, Rifle

-------A trooper is a cav solider NOT an infantryman. Also, infantry don't carry guidons, cav do. Infantry carry flags.

3 troopers: rifles

--------Yes with bayonets.

Sergeant. cavalry sabre

-------Again no.

No, Ben hasn't got them confused - he's using the wording from the lists in Frontier. :D

If I were you Ben I'd drop the second Sergeant with Cavalry Sabre and buy myself a raw recruit with rifle.

If I remember correctly a Guidon bearer can't use a two handed weapon either so I'd drop his rifle and probably give it to your remaining Sergeant. Get rid of his heavy pistol and then spend what you have left on bayonets for a bit of hand to hand punch.

You'll be playing very defensively for the first few games but once you either get the cash to buy another Sergeant or pick up a couple of 'kid done good' rolls you'll be on your way.

Hope that's of some help.
Ray.

One of the lads is using a US Cavalry posse in our Current campaign, after 4 games it is still very small but very difficult to beat.

So, what can a guidon bearer be armed with? I think that he cannot be a hero, which limits his weapon choices to none, since none of the trooper choices are one-handed.

On the other hand, a hero (e.g. sergeant) cannot be a guidon bearer, so that does not present a way of arming a guidon bearer with a one-handed weapon, either.

Is there an erratum which allows sergeants to be guidon bearers or guidon bearers to choose weapons that are normally limited to heroes?

A guidon bearer would be a NCO. They would also be armed just like any ordinary trooper with a carbine, pistol and saber. Would they use a carbine on horse back? Probably not but they would have it if needed.

Oh wait a second... are you talking about a cavalry guidon bearer or an infantry standard bearer? I might be confused. There is a big difference. Also, you would not call an infantryman a "trooper". Only a cavalryman is a trooper and when I read that I just assumed you meant a cavalryman.

An infantry stand bearer would be a NCO as well but he'd only be armed with a pistol. The other members of the Color Guard would help to defend their flags.

Don't you find a posse of 7 a little on the small size? My Texas Rangers have been over run by hordes of Mexican peons heaps of time.
