WABFORUM FORMAT Tang Dynasty and her Enemies 650-850AD

Postby Leondegrande » Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:58 pm

Starting with the creation of the tibetan army list (quick and dirty as always :) ) I was interested in which armies fought against those tibetans. Looked into the DBM armies book 3, the Byzantium and the Art of War book and here is what I made of it :)

first i would like you excuse me for the photo which i posted on a wrong subject .
secondly i would like i would like to thank and to saluate the excellent job done on these non official lists .
I have a 4.000 WAB points Qin army ( John Jenkins figurines reinforced by some Curteys ) , i am actually building a tibetan army ( Curteys ) , i have to finish a samourai army ( Perry ) . Next will be a korean army .
With the support of this forum and non official lists i think i will continue to go on asiatic armies !!!
.
I have only to find the right figurines :) :)

Jep, you have to choose between characters or bowmen on the ellie. With up to 9 archers (3 left/right and three on top) a burmese elephant (with only Ld7) is a shooting plattform (0-1 per 1000 points) with not that much HtH power and cost 250pts.

I like the idea. It's the main "army specific" unit of the burmese. Just found only one model for it (Irregulars me think) with 6 bowmen :)

Yes but 24 shots would be over the top!

Therefore I took 9 :)

But remember: They only have BS3 and may have -1 for move and shoot, they don't have any armour by default and are part of a large target (+1 to hit).

Six crew members as maximum may be ok also, me think as limit. Have to be playtested.....

I have played against the WI list that was published many moons ago with 24 shots per elephant.

It was not overly effective and with no save the crew died pretty quickly.

Was fun though with lots of rampaging elephants.

The Burmese should be allowed more than 1 per 1000 as well, they fielded the in the same quantity as Indians.

Yes 6 is better - still pretty damn good.

They only get hit a third of the time (shots needed to hit crew). Also its very hard to score full points on an elephant.

I think the limit of one elephant per 1000 points of army is very good as it stops them getting out of hand.

Hehe. That was my thinking, not too much of them but those coming pretty good (but not too good). I think the 0-1 per 1000 plus crew or character and up to 9 is better than 0-1 per 500 and up to 6.

What I've read, the elephants where used by the burmese armies 1000AD and later on in higher quantities.

But for all the lists in that small collection counts: funny, quick&easy with some thoughts in there but not historical correct
