Has anybody tried playing 2nd Boer War to these rules yet?

Are there any good manufacturers for models for this?

At the moment I dont play Great War, but have been reading White Flag to Pretoria, and the similarities to WW1 look remarkable.

Yep. It's still a work in progress, but is looking OK.

Foundry, though the ranges are very limited with regards to the Boers and colonial troops. You could raid the Perry Sudan range and get away with it, and Perry also have a very small Mafeking 1900 range.

Yes and no. It was war of two stages, with the first part featuring a number of engagements not unlike WW1. Certainly plenty of blind stupidity on the part of British commanders that needlessly cost lives.

The second stage was a guerilla war, perhaps best dealt with by the LotOW rules system. An do you mean "With the flag to Pretoria"?

Yes, with not White. Think I was hoping thats what my opponents might fly. When you say work in progress, what exactly do you mean? Are you putting lists together, amending rules, or even officially playtesting something?

Have you thought about Disposable Heroes; they have a free download on their site for the Spanish/French conflict in North Africa set in the 1920/30s which wouldn't be a million miles off for the Boer guerilla aspect. d

D, The second Boer War, is definitely not a geurilla affair. Good size armies, trenches, and big guns taken off ships and put on heavy gun carriages. Supplies towed around with steam engines. This sounds interesting, but for now my next forray looks to be in BP with the colonials I have in 15's (Zulu wars), and maybe 28mm Napoleonic.

I have Black Powder and Crusader Rank and File. Both look to give a good game but the amount of figures required for Black Powder is immense and I may as well play 28mm Warmaster.

Not really intrested in collecting 15mm for anything but FoW, I will play 10mm Naps with the Warmaster Waterloo ruleset if your intrested as I have a force of British with a lot of Dutch and Belgiums. My 2010 project will be the Age of Reason, starting with a Loyalist force of Britsh.

try British Grenadier for AWI and use actual 1/20 strengths, some btns are 12 figs do able in 28mm

It's not official. I'm putting some lists together and tinkering with the rules for my own interest. It may see print somewhere else. Depends on how much sense I can make of it!

The latter part of the war definitely was a guerrilla war, but there were plenty of relatively large scale actions in the early part.

That would be nice, particularly the Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen (from my own home state, and boasts 2 VCs from the War) but for now I'm sticking with existing models. Of course, once everyone recognises the genius inherent in my work I will undoubtedly get a contract for mega$$ and be able to commission some sculpts. Just like happened with Legion.

I used to game 2nd Boer war in 28mm a nice period the only problem I found trying to game it over company sized actions was that you simply dont have the table size especially with the boer tactics of sitting in sangars and taking aimed shots at long range until the Brits close then buggering off. To be honest if I did it again and wanted to do Colenso etc I would go for 10mm and use Battles for empire.

For 28mm Arc of Fire has a nice feel to it for 28mm. Attacks on block houses or smaller actions in the later war makes for interesting gaming in 28mm
