Numidians as Greeks?

Postby ulverston1 » Sun Apr 04, 2010 9:54 am

Hi,
I have just ordered the Numidian box (wargames factory) and was wondering would they be suitable as Greek light infantry? Has anyone else bought this set and what do you use it as? I dont game often so any information on how to base them would be appreciated-maybe DBA bases would restrict these chaps too much!

I think they'll do fine, they really should have been called something like 'Generic Ancient Mediterranean Infantry', but Numidians does sound better. You have a lot of options on the sprues so you can make up javelin throwers, bowmen and slingers. They come with medium round shields, so if you can get hold of some Pelta shields, that might be good to mix in.

I've personally used them for Carthaginian spearmen, Jewish Revolt, some ECW Irish and Scots (with bits from Warlord and Perry Sprues) and have tried a few test models as Successor levy phalanx (just add 8cm wire spears). With larger shields they'll pass as Greek-esque hoplite militia (which is what I've done with my Carthaginians).

Thanks Guy,
I will just paint them up as they are shown on the box, for the time being I will use them as allies or an enemy for my republican Romans. Surely its only a matter of time before someone releases the greeks anyway? I certainly dont have your skill to attempt conversions...

Check out this thread.

A very nice looking army that contains these models as psiloi.

The film Alexander made me want to not watch a film ever again...! :)

These on the other hand (with appologies to the OP but they do look pretty good).
