WAB forum future?

Postby Bishop Lord » Sat Mar 19, 2011 9:28 am

With all this talk about various rules sets that we will all be trying (and hopefully enjoying) in the near future, what is the future of this forum? Will there be any way that it will be adapted to incorporate these new sets as well? I think this would be a good idea, I follow lots of other forums and in my opinion (with out blowing smoke up anybody's ass) this is probably the best about for content and people who post. As someone who thoroughly enjoys reading and posting on this forum it being one where most war gamers stop by even if they don't play WAB as a main game I include my self as Ive only just started playing WAB again and like a lot of various systems( variety being the spice of life and all that)....over to you lot :D

This is the best looking forum out there. Very user friendly and appealing to the eye. Fantastic for seeing nice painted models also. A dream would be other rules section. A mega forum.

I couldnt put it better myself.Maybe put the wab 1.5 to one side and bring in each of the three new set those being CoE,HC,WaC? which may even bring in more followers! Who needs the TMP? vote with your posts. Lets get some T shirts printed

Gentlemen - great question - "What is the future of this forum"

I have indeed been seriously thinking of what to do - as clearly WAB while still popular and in my view will continue to be for a while yet - the reality is that there are some superb new rulesets for ancients coming out that we would be fools to ignore in favour of WAB. For me I will surely be having a go at all these new rulesets and as my aim is to return something back to the hobby - then an extension of this forum would be an obvious step.

But, being perfectly honest I have yet to decide the direction I want to go.

I will follow closely this thread as I hope to get some good feedback from here on what teh gaming community wants!

Personally i think it should be a general Wargaming Forum. WAB is just one of the many rulesets now. Just my £0.02

Why not leave it as the WAB forum but change the acronym to Wargaming Ancient Battles (in 28mm) Forum.

That's just the 28mm stuff, I'm not even going to start on the other scales.

I agree wholeheartedly with 'Scrivs' - Wargaming Ancient Battles sounds most appropriate.

I think even though War gaming Ancient Battles (in 28mm) Forum sounds good and would fit nicely with the current lettering format. For me as mainly a Dark ages and Medieval gamer 'War gaming Historical Battles'. If you keep the WAB lettering new comers who have started gaming because of the the new sets may not click the link.I personally wouldn't denote a figure scale even though the rules sets out there are for 28mm some of us like the smaller scale also :D

To be totally honest I think the future of the forum is the main priority, can the name be changed anyway? A fresh start would be nice though a bit like redecorating an old room or trading in the wife for a sporty new model  (my wife has NOT got the password so I can write this.......hang on.. shes stood behind me.....oh god!.........

(a thud ,followed by silence).

I was just thinking about this the other day. I think the strength of this forum is the community that are involved in it and it that that needs to be looked after and nurtured. An expansion into all the other new sets would be nothing but a boon and may help to bring in new members who would otherwise have been put off with a warhammer-centric outlook. It's definitely time to evolve!

Since those of us already here would know where to look if the name changed- then if the forum does evolve - a new name would attract newcomers better.

Scrivis- Wargaming Ancient Battles-Perfect IMHO. This forum is too good to let fade. Is WAB title copyright though :? Opening up the forum is a win win.

We would have to re-name the forum though, how about this, Fellows United Core Komrades Off Freedom Folowing Gamers Worldwide, just a try

Gents,

I'll toss in my vote on encouragement. I enjoy WAB and will continue playing it into the foreseable future. However, the new sets have me intriqued. I would appreciate a one-stop-website where I can hear your views on them as they evolve and contrast them to each other (especially WAB itself).

Personally, I would prefer that the focus remain on ancients. The "WAB" Forum lately has already been quite busy with the other WHW products, partly due to WAB's... well if not its slow death, at least its lying in a coma.

If the forum is opened to historical gaming in general, I will be less likely to wish to scan through the recent topics in search of ancients subjects.

Fair one Allen, but given that some of the supplements in regular play and many discussions on this forum actually cover the Middle Ages (BTGG, SW, AoA etc.) then perhaps ancients would not be very representative.

I do find puerile anti GW comments, such as those of Varangian, utterly tedious. Life really is too short.

There doesn't seem to be an issue with discussing other rule sets at the moment, but maybe WHH will call foul is proper sub-forum at established. If they do then they do.

Regards,

J

Well I'm relatively new here but as andy asked for other opinions:

I'm a dark ages man me-self but I agree with this suggestion.
